The newest edition of Maclean’s Magazine’s annual Canadian university rankings is out and, once again, the University of Waterloo is ranked #1 for computer science. The university was top ranked in computer science for program reputation and research reputation.

The University of Waterloo was tied with the University of Toronto and University of British Columbia in the top spot. These three schools have shared the top spot for years and they’re also the only three Canadian schools that appear on the QS University Rankings top-25 for computer science. The University of Waterloo has the largest computer science enrollment in the global top-25.

The University of Waterloo was also named “Canada’s Most Innovative University,” was ranked #2 overall, #3 for highest quality and #4 for “leaders of tomorrow.” The engineering school – Canada’s largest – was ranked #3.New call-to-action

"For those paying attention, it's no surprise that the University of Waterloo is once again 'Canada's Most Innovative University' and top-ranked for computer science," says Tony LaMantia, President & CEO of Waterloo EDC. "It's exactly these qualities that have attracted tech leaders like Google, EPAM Systems and Constant Contact to Waterloo, and it's this talent that has driven the growth of some of Canada's most exciting tech companies, including ApplyBoard, OpenText, Arctic Wolf and Faire."

The founding leadership of ApplyBoard, OpenText, Arctic Wolf and Faire all included University of Waterloo graduates. In fact, about 18% of Canadian tech founders spent some time at UWaterloo.

This is just the latest of several tech talent accolades for Waterloo. As noted, earlier in 2022 the University of Waterloo was listed among the world’s top-25 computer science programs. In July, Waterloo was recognized as the #1 small tech talent market in North America by CBRE for the second consecutive year.
