Automation giant Beckhoff moves Canadian HQ to Waterloo

Posted by Waterloo EDC on March 23, 2021

One of the world’s largest automation companies has relocated its Canadian headquarters to Waterloo Region. Beckhoff Automation Canada has moved into an 11,000 square-foot office in Cambridge, Ontario, that will help increase warehousing and customer support capabilities.

The new location offers optimal space for customer training, seminars, sales activities and technical support. The facility also has space for an Innovation Lab for application testing and proof-of-concepts using the latest Beckhoff technologies and a larger central warehouse to ensure faster deliveries to customers across Canada’s largest manufacturing corridor.

The decision to move to Waterloo was driven, in part, to the region’s growing reputation for high-tech manufacturing. The company’s press release called the Waterloo area “the centre of Canada’s industrial technology market” and highlighted the fact that Waterloo is home to Canada’s largest robotics and automation cluster. Additional reasons to locate here include the University of Waterloo – home to Canada’s largest engineering school and rated top-40 globally for engineering and technology – and prime positioning along Canada’s largest superhighway.Download the Waterloo Robotics and Automation Ecosystem Map

“The new Cambridge headquarters has increased not only our corporate footprint but also our capabilities to serve Beckhoff customers. We are excited to be located in the technology-rich Waterloo Region, which puts our team closer to key customers and partners in the automation industry,” said Calvin Wallace, Managing Director of Beckhoff Automation Ltd.

The company joins an incredible collection of automation and robotics companies operating in Waterloo, including global scale innovators like ATS Automation and Eclipse Automation, as well as fast-growing robotics companies like Clearpath Robotics and Avidbots.

Beckhoff Automation is a global company with more than 4,300 employees – including 1,750 engineers – and 39 subsidiaries that recorded more than $1.3 billion in sales in 2019. The Canadian subsidiary was established in 2017, reporting directly into the global headquarters in Germany. The company also has offices in Quebec and British Columbia.
